It's a very special time of year in Montreal. Our favourite festival, Pop Montreal, kicks off on Wednesday this week and carries on through Sunday. We're especially excited for this edition of the festival because we've got more of our artists performing than ever before. It's also the first time we're presenting an official label showcase with both Miracle Fortress and Diamond Rings performing at Cabaret Juste Pour Rire on Thursday September 30th. It's a split-showcase with our friends at Upper Class and should be a lot of fun. Tickets can be had here.
Diamond Rings is gearing up for a very busy fall with the release of Special Affections at the end of the month, and a new limited-edition 7" that is out today. It features the new single "Something Else" on the A side, and his Milla Jovovich cover with Owen Pallett on the B. He'll have copies on hand at the showcase and we've already shipped a bunch of our limited quantity out via our mail order store.
Our other recent signing, Montreal's Daniel Isaiah Schachter, will be opening for Van Dyke Parks at the Ukrainian Federation earlier that same evening ... (he's on at 8:00pm, and Miracle Fortress doesn't start until 10, so plenty of time for catching everyone; we will be!). Dan is just wrapping up recording his debut full length and this is your chance to hear a partial preview of it. You can get tickets here.
Also at the Ukrainian Federation, Patrick Watson is hosting a very special "Sacred Sunday" starting at 4:30pm. The idea was to gather a bunch of friends and have a kind of musical holy day, performing music composed as a form of worship, homage, or tribute to all things divine. Other performers including Katie Moore, Lil' Andy, The Barr Brothers and Alden Penner. It should be a pretty special and uplifting afternoon, and a great way to cap off Pop. Some advance tickets are available here, otherwise there will be tickets at the door starting at 3:30.
